Florentine Inspirations

c. 1470-1480

Inspirational art from 1470-1480 by Ghirlandaio, Botticelli and Francesco del Cossa

 Camicia, Cotta, and Gamurra.

The cotta is made of a blue-on-blue brocade, laces up the front and sides, and has detachable sleeves that also lace along the length of the sleeve. The gamurra is a blue/gold brocade that is adjustable at the sides and laces front at the center front. The camicia, visible at neck and when sleeves are not worn, is silk. The ensemble was finished in November, 2000. The top three pictures shows the dress being modelled by a friend who looks a lot better in it than I ever did. (Photographed at an SCA event, West Kingdom Arts and Sciences Tourney, July 2005). The bottom photo shows me wearing it at 9 months pregnant in 2003. Proof positive that you can be pregnant and stylish in historical clothing.
